Spain and other countries will receive this with iOS 15
This week is Apple’s WWDC, an event focused on developers and whose opening day served to introduce iOS 15, iPadOS 15, macOS 12 and watchOS 8. These are the next operating systems that will reach the public in the fall, presumably September. The company announced that Spain was among the countries that would receive Apple Maps improvements, thus joining the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Portugal, Italy and Australia.
In recent years we have seen Apple Maps cars traveling the streets of our country, collecting information from the environment in order to improve the company’s map system. Well, we already have the first improvements announced. One of them is the possibility of have a browser that takes advantage of augmented reality to guide us without getting lost, having a three-dimensional visualization that will show an environment identical to that of the place we are going through (being able to see important buildings, lanes, pedestrian crossings …). It has also been possible to confirm other improvements that are expected to also reach everyone, such as the possibility of choosing an arrival or departure time with which Apple Maps will be able to identify the best routes based on traffic and other elements that The travel time may vary depending on the time of day chosen.
Will these improvements reach all cities?
Officially Apple did not give details about which specific places in each country would receive these news. Although unfortunately we intuit that they will be only for major cities considered this way because they have a high population nucleus. It is taken for granted that capitals such as Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia or Bilbao will be able to receive these improvements, but it is not so clear if we will also be able to have them in surrounding cities or if they will also be extended to less-traveled towns or roads.
And when can they start to be used?
These improvements will reach both the iPhone, iPad and Mac, although they obviously make more sense in these first devices because they are the ones that will be used most often for browsing. Obviously anyone can use their tablet or computer for this, but the truth is that it is less common for a matter of comfort, since they will be used mainly in vehicles and it is difficult to imagine someone carrying a MacBook in the seat next to them to navigate (also that it could be dangerous).
Regarding the date, the company has specified that it will be later this year. The new versions of the operating systems, as we mentioned previously, are set for September. However, this could be a function that would arrive later with versions such as iOS 15.1 or iOS 15.2, but it is not ruled out that it arrives already in the first versions. We remember that this operating system will be compatible with iPhone 6s and newer models, being the same number of devices that could already update in the past to iOS 13 and iOS 14.
